Securing critical infrastructure through cyber innovation

Today, surrounded by business leaders, researchers, and students, Carolyn Watters, Chief Digital Research Officer of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) and David MaGee, Vice-President of Research at the University of New Brunswick (UNB), celebrated the opening of the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity-NRC Cybersecurity Collaboration Consortium (CNCCC) in Fredericton, New Brunswick. This innovative hub, established by the NRC and the University of New Brunswick's Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity (CIC), will lead to discoveries and advances in cybersecurity including publications, patents, and the commercialization of technology, as well as provide training opportunities for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. The CNCCC will conduct innovative cybersecurity research for critical infrastructure with a focus on internet of things (IoT) security, artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, and natural language processing. While cyber threats are growing in sophistication and magnitude, there is enormous potential for Canadian digital innovation and expertise in cybersecurity.
