Scale-out software-defined storage market menaces traditional storage

The pressure has never been greater on conventional storage vendors. A resurgence of on-premises offerings in the software-defined storage market combined with public cloud storage -- also based on scale-out SDS -- is causing the market to shrink for traditional storage products such as Dell EMC VNX, HPE Smart Array, and NetApp E-Series and FAS. I will also contend that external storage based solely on simple dual-controller architectures may be facing long-term extinction. Here's why.
