Oracle buys SD-WAN company Talari Networks

Oracle Corp. said today it’s acquiring a software-defined wide area network company called Talari Networks Inc. in order to build out its cloud and networking businesses. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Talari’s main product is its Failsafe technology, which is an SD-WAN platform used to connect enterprise networks such as branch offices and data centers over large geographic distances. WAN connections traditionally required special proprietary hardware, but the SD-WAN movement does away with this by moving network control into the cloud using a software approach. Talari’s Failsafe SD-WAN is said to provide greater reliability and security for site-to-site and site-to-cloud connectivity and application access over any IP network. Oracle said it’s planning to use the technology to boost its own Session Border Controller and network management infrastructure, which is used to secure and manage the flow of data across fixed and mobile IP networks.
