VMware’s SDN Strategy Now Revolves Around Hybrid and Multi-Cloud

VMware on Wednesday released a new version of its NSX-T Data Center software designed to simplify network virtualization, boost performance, and improve security in both private and public clouds. The company offers two flavors of its NSX network virtualization and security software. NSX-V supports VMware vSphere-only deployments, while NSX-T works with containers, other hypervisors, and a hybrid and multi-cloud environment that includes support for Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, and VMware Cloud on AWS. While VMware continues to offer NSX-V for vSphere-only deployments, the company will steer new customers to use NSX-T, because most enterprises are moving toward mixed cloud environments, Tom McCafferty, VMware’s senior director of product marketing for NSX, told Data Center Knowledge.
