DevOps automation firm Puppet Inc. is pitching a new service that helps companies ensure the information technology infrastructure they use is compliant with Center for Internet Security benchmarks. Puppet sells tools that developers use to automate the delivery and optimization of modern software applications. It’s best known for its flagship Puppet Enterprise platform that’s used to manage infrastructure and applications as they move across the software delivery pipeline. With Puppet Enterprise, the underlying infrastructure is automated via code that optimizes things such as servers and virtual machines.

The platform also helps to automate functions including code review, testing, continuous integration and deployment in order to accelerate the development process.Today’s new offering is all about helping companies to ensure their IT infrastructure meets regulatory standards, something that Puppet said is one of the most difficult and important challenges its customers face. Yasmin Rajabi, global services strategy manager at Puppet, told that ensuring compliance is especially tricky for customers in industries such as finance, insurance and retail that handle sensitive customer data.

It’s really hard to deal with this,” Rajabi said in an interview. “Operations teams actually have to go out and make changes and make sure systems are compliant. Software can help continuously enforce this.” Rajabi explained that the CIS provides a list of benchmarks for servers and other IT systems that needs to be adhered to. “Our software takes that content and maps that to the systems you need to enforce the benchmarks for,” she said. “It’s continuous enforcement, done automatically.”

“Today’s new offering is all about helping companies to ensure their IT infrastructure meets regulatory standards, something that Puppet said is one of the most difficult and important challenges its customers face.”

Puppet said its CIS compliance service can help organizations ensure they are both secure and also equipped to pass audits quickly and easily. Organizations can identify exactly where they’re out of compliance and then ensure those systems conform to CIS standards. It’s providing a capability that’s likely to be in greater demand than ever as companies increasingly allow employees to work remotely to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. “A sea of enterprise companies just went to remote work,” said recently appointed Puppet Chief Technology Officer Abby Kearns. “That wasn’t a common practice for them. And so security and compliance become even more of a priority. The automation of that compliance is so important.” Puppet said its new CIS compliance service is available now in alpha for both Puppet Enterprise and Open Source Puppet users.

IT teams need a simple way to get started with automation and a solution that grows with them as their automation footprint grows. You shouldn’t have to throw away your existing scripts or tools to scale automation across your organization. Organizations need a solution that is extensible — one that complements their current automation efforts and helps them scale beyond individuals to multiple teams,” said Matt Waxman, Head of Products at Puppet. “Our latest product capabilities meet people where they are and provides a clear roadmap to expand automation across their organizations.

Zenoss Launches Real-Time Kubernetes Monitoring

Zenoss | March 20, 2023

Zenoss Inc., the leader in AI-driven full-stack monitoring, today announced it has released streaming data monitoring for Kubernetes, the most widely deployed open-source orchestration platform used to manage containerized applications. This real-time monitoring of Kubernetes streaming data is part of a broader set of initiatives focused on cloud-based monitoring, which enables visibility for ephemeral systems that cannot be effectively monitored by traditional monitoring tools. Kubernetes was designed by Google in 2014 and donated to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation in 2015. It has become the de facto standard for running containers in production at scale, including in cloud environments such as AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. Also known as K8s, Kubernetes is supported by a community of professional programmers and coders from around the world. There have been over 2.8 million contributions to Kubernetes made by companies. Along with containers, Kubernetes has emerged as a primary technology for modern cloud-native workloads. According to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, organizations using or evaluating Kubernetes increased from 78% in 2019 to 96% in 2022. Zenoss initially released monitoring and analytics for Kubernetes in 2018 and has delivered continuous innovation to become a leading monitoring platform for container-based environments. Zenoss provides full-stack monitoring and AIOps for public and private clouds, as well as for all on-prem IT infrastructure. The platform provides a view of containerized applications in the context of the broader infrastructure. This provides a common view for IT Operations, DevOps, DevSecOps, and business-level users. In addition to previously existing capabilities, Zenoss monitoring for Kubernetes now provides: Monitoring insights for Kubernetes clusters in a single pane of glass along with the broader infrastructure for K8s deployments in AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, as well as in private or hybrid clouds and locally hosted environments Secure, cloud-based monitoring with zero install Data collection and analytics in under five minutes Visibility into the health and performance of nodes, services, pods, containers, namespaces and more Intelligent dashboards with out-of-box templates Smart View, actions and notifications "There is a significant shortage of visibility into health and performance in these highly complex container orchestration environments," said Trent Fitz, chief product officer for Zenoss. “Just as application developers have adapted to be more efficient, scalable and automated, we are doing the same for monitoring these environments.” Zenoss Cloud is the leading AI-driven full-stack monitoring platform that streams all machine data, uniquely enabling the emergence of context for preventing service disruptions in complex, modern IT environments, including those built on Kubernetes. Zenoss Cloud leverages the most powerful machine learning and real-time analytics to give companies the ability to scale and adapt to the changing needs of their businesses. About Zenoss Zenoss works with the world's largest organizations to ensure their IT services and applications are always on. Delivering full-stack monitoring combined with AIOps, Zenoss uniquely collects all types of machine data, including metrics, dependency data, events, streaming data and logs, to build real-time IT service models that train machine learning algorithms to deliver robust AIOps analytics capabilities. This enables IT Ops and DevOps teams to optimize application performance, predict and eliminate outages, and reduce IT spend in modern hybrid IT environments. Zenoss is recognized in The Forrester Wave™: Intelligent AIOps Platforms, Q4 2022, the 2022 Gartner Market Guide for AIOps Platforms, and in the 2022 Gartner Market Guide for IT Infrastructure Monitoring Tools.

Inspur NF8480M6 Hits a New Record in the SAP SD 2-Tier Benchmark

Inspur Systems | January 05, 2023

In a recent announcement, Inspur Information’s NF8480M6 achieved a world record of 359,780 SAPS and is ranked first in SAP SD 2-tier performance benchmark for 4-socket servers using the Copper Lake platform. The SAP Sales & Distribution (SD) 2-Tier Benchmark is widely recognized as a benchmark in a two-tier architecture based on sales and distribution modules. The SAP SD 2-Tier Benchmark Test has evolved into a crucial indicator of operational performance for the production systems of actual enterprises. Many enterprise users regard it as a more flexible and valuable guide for selecting a server platform, since it considers exact production needs of enterprise users during the architecture design itself. A higher benchmark test score indicates that the server system can accommodate more users and offer more productivity for businesses or a higher SAPS value. The record set by Inspur NF8480M6 in SAP SD 2-Tier Benchmark for 4-Socket Servers is due to the design philosophy of openness, excellence, extremeness and security, which enables Inspur to increase usability, reliability and performance of its servers. About Inspur Information Inspur Information is the second-largest server manufacturer and leading cloud computing, AI, and data center infrastructure provider.
