A large South Wales multi-disciplined contractor has teamed up with one of Wales’ longest established IT companies, as part of a collaboration which would ensure that performance, availability, storage and security are delivered against key project objectives, safeguarding the company infrastructure for the future. CSG Computer Services had been tasked by E.G. Lewis Group to evaluate current IT systems, as well as make appropriate recommendations for technological changes. Following an in-depth audit, CSG Computer Services proposed the installation of two Gen10 HPE DL360 servers, each with 2x 10 core CPU (40 core HT), 128GB RAM, redundant OS-only HDDs and redundant PSUs. Both hosts would run the latest version of Windows Server Hyper-V to provide the redundancy, fail over and balancing of the virtual machines between the physical servers. The storage array in place would allow for peak disk I/O performance as well as redundancy in case of drive failure. This would give E.G. Lewis Group an upgrade in performance and redundancy, as well as bring server software up-to-date by running on Windows Server 2019.

Despite more than $5 trillion having been spent on digital transformation efforts, survey after survey shows that successful digital transformations are far and few in-between. By many estimates, more than 50% of digital transformation efforts failed in recent years. While a recent survey conducted by Hanover Research and commissioned by AHEAD, the State of Enterprise Digital Transformation, found that 93% of enterprises are undergoing some digital transformation as they seek to cut costs (77%) and improve customer experience (71%). The survey found 42% of enterprises struggling to reach success as their efforts fall behind or stall.

Protecting Healthcare Data and Infrastructure

Article | April 2, 2020

The healthcare industry is increasingly targeted by cybercriminals. As digital transformation accelerates and more providers move their internal systems to the cloud, deploy IoT medical devices and host medical records online, they become even more vulnerable. Over the past four years, nearly 1,500 healthcare companies have been hit with ransomware attacks, and the threat is unlikely to go away. Healthcare data is just too valuable a commodity on the black market for cybercriminals to pass up. In 2019, health organizations continued to get hit with data breaches and ransomware attacks, costing the sector an estimated $4 billion.

Why we need more 5G cyberhacks

Article | February 24, 2020

How secure are 5G networks? That question should be on the lips of every network operator (and their customers) as the next generation of mobile broadband technology is rolled out across the world. While the industry is likely to find out the hard way, there are steps that can be taken to head off potential trouble. One such step is for network technology vendors to open up their systems to ethical hackers to see what happens (a scenario that doesn't happen nearly enough in the industry across all types of network technology). So it was encouraging to see a recent report on what was the world's first 5G cyber hackathon, which was held last November in Oulu, Finland. It was particularly encouraging to see that two of the radio access network market's leaders, Ericsson and Nokia, participated, as more than 80 ethical hackers got stuck into 5G New Radio, non-standalone (NSA) core and 5G fixed wireless access systems to see what vulnerabilities they could uncover.
