Federal agencies are adopting mobile solutions that allow workers in the field to achieve their missions. They are exploring and deploying Internet of Things technologies and are enabling users to get online and process data in far-flung locations, from Antarctica to war zones.  Increasingly, more computing and data processing will be happening at the network edge, where devices and users are located. The federal government is gingerly entering the world of edge computing, which enables faster analysis of data and thus delivers insights in a more timely and relevant way. Edge computing is defined by bringing compute capabilities to where the mission is taking place in the field, and means that data does not have to travel back to a data center to be processed. “In the military world, we call that the tip of the spear,” says Cameron Chehreh, COO and CTO of Dell EMC Federal.

Microsoft Acquires npm: A Healthy Move for Critical Public Infrastructure

Article | March 16, 2020

Today, news broke that GitHub and its parent company Microsoft, acquired npm and its public repository of open source JavaScript packages. In 2018 when Microsoft acquired Github, many in the developer community had a cautious, even emotional response. Given today’s announcement that GitHub is acquiring npm -- the same concerns are likely to surface again since JavaScript is one of the world’s most popular programming languages and since the commons of the global JavaScript community reside within the fabric of npm.

WIRELESS DATA CENTERS AND CLOUD COMPUTING

Article | April 13, 2020

One of the most exciting areas of Vubiq Network’s innovative millimeter wave technology is in the application of ultra high-speed, short-range communications as applied to solving the scaling constraints and costs for internal data center connectivity and switching. Today’s limits of cabled and centralized switching architectures are eliminated by leveraging the wide bandwidths of the millimeter wave spectrum for the high-density communications requirements inside the modern data center. Our patented technology has the ability to provide more than one terabit per second of wireless uplink capacity from a single server rack through an innovative approach to create a millimeter wave massive mesh network. The elimination of all inter-rack cabling – as well as the elimination of all aggregation and core switches – is combined with higher throughput, lower latency, lower power, higher reliability, and lower cost by using millimeter wave wireless connectivity.

The critical role of Internet of Things infrastructure in connecting all of our devices

Article | February 20, 2020

The Internet of Things (IoT) will fundamentally change all industries, from agriculture to transportation to healthcare. In the next few decades, nearly everything in our world will become connected. But with that increased connectivity comes several concerns. For example, the IoT will generate immense amounts of data, which will put pressure on the Internet and force us to come up with more efficient ways to transmit and store this data. Perhaps chief among these concerns are the infrastructure considerations as other sectors grow thanks to the IoT. Below, we've outlined the future of IoT infrastructure management, along with some IoT infrastructure companies that are leading the way.
