Data center infrastructure is evolving. Public cloud services lay out the path for where it’s headed. Everyone knows they can sign up with a public cloud service and allocate data center infrastructure, servers, and connected storage in minutes. You can also build private data center infrastructure to deliver those same resources just as quickly, though it’s simply not yet as well understood how to transform existing, legacy data center infrastructure into a private cloud.

BigID

BigID is transforming enterprise protection and privacy of personal data. Organizations are facing record breaches of personal information and proliferating global privacy regulations with fines reaching 4% of annual revenue. Fiber Optic vs Copper Cables: How Do They Compare?

Article | February 12, 2020

Fiber Optic and Copper are pretty much the only options when it comes to networking communications cables. Today we focus on what makes them different. Let’s begin with the key characteristics of the old reliable copper phone lines — the same basic infrastructure that we’ve been using since the beginning of the 20th-century. Copper is highly conductive. This is what makes it so great for carrying the power to your home. Copper wires use the movement of electrons to carry signals by modulating a waveform at one end then demodulating it at the other end. And converting the patterns in the waveform into an analog or digital signal.

Xi IoT’s continued journey to be a Multi-Cloud Platform

Article | February 12, 2020

We, the Team Sherlock @ Nutanix, wrapped up year 2019 with amazing line up of platform features for developers and infrastructure admnistrators. Read more about them in my last blog post, titled Xi IoT : Another year in retrospect. Since then we have added many more exciting features that I want to share with you in this new blog post. Xi IoT’s journey started at the Edge with a purpose built platform to manage Infrastructure and Apps at scale but soon this versatile Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) Stack found its ways into private and public clouds. As we have been talking to our customers and partners, need for such platform to run generic applications in private or public clouds is even more evident.

To cloud or not to cloud . . . that shouldn’t be the question

Article | February 12, 2020

In my discussions with clients about their journey to cloud, it’s becoming evident that many of them are viewing cloud as a goal, instead of looking at cloud deployments as a capability. In some cases, line-of-business owners are under corporate pressures to “adopt” a cloud-first strategy. A recent Forrester Consulting study commissioned by IBM, “The Key To Enterprise Hybrid Multicloud Strategy”[1] suggests that “75% [of 350 surveyed global decision makers] have received pushback while advocating for strategies outside of cloud environments.” The result of this, unfortunately, is the lack of continued investment on their on-premises (“on-prem”) environments. From my experience, this type of deployment focus may not yield the expected results. We shouldn’t think about problem solving as “To cloud or not to cloud?” Instead, we should ask ourselves, “What is the problem I’m trying to solve?” and “Are cloud deployments (public or private) going to optimize my solution?”
