Keeping our clients from harm’s way is the overarching mission that drives everything we do. As part of that mission, we’re broadcasting information related to services from the Department of Homeland Security. The DHS offers services that can increase the safety and security for courthouses and municipal infrastructures. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, (CISA), an agency within the DHS, provides site assessment services via the Protective Security Advisor (PSA) Program. The protective security advisors at CISA provide detailed reports that detail areas of vulnerability and recommendations for potential solutions. CISA is a valuable resource for providing leading edge and thought leader solutions. The PSA Program’s primary mission is to proactively engage with federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial government mission partners and members of the private sector stakeholder community to protect critical infrastructure through these five mission areas.

A new era of automation with Cisco ACI and the Citrix ADC Manager app

Article | February 12, 2020

Since it was first available, Citrix has worked with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) to integrate Citrix ADC with the Cisco Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC). As a valued technology partner, Citrix has a device package — a software module — that enables users to configure the Citrix ADC directly from a Cisco APIC. This setup has run in many customer production environments over the years. Let’s consider one of those customers — Jim. He was the first to deploy the integrated solution in his data center. The solution gave him the automation he needed and a single view to configure, deploy, and manage applications. However, his application admins preferred to use the Citrix ADC user interface to manage L4-L7 services.

To cloud or not to cloud . . . that shouldn’t be the question

Article | February 24, 2020

In my discussions with clients about their journey to cloud, it’s becoming evident that many of them are viewing cloud as a goal, instead of looking at cloud deployments as a capability. In some cases, line-of-business owners are under corporate pressures to “adopt” a cloud-first strategy. A recent Forrester Consulting study commissioned by IBM, “The Key To Enterprise Hybrid Multicloud Strategy”[1] suggests that “75% [of 350 surveyed global decision makers] have received pushback while advocating for strategies outside of cloud environments.” The result of this, unfortunately, is the lack of continued investment on their on-premises (“on-prem”) environments. From my experience, this type of deployment focus may not yield the expected results. We shouldn’t think about problem solving as “To cloud or not to cloud?” Instead, we should ask ourselves, “What is the problem I’m trying to solve?” and “Are cloud deployments (public or private) going to optimize my solution?”

Data Security in the Cloud Best Practices

Article | April 8, 2020

Data security in the cloud best practices include: understanding and implementing security fundamentals, securing cloud infrastructure along the shared responsibility model, encrypting data in the cloud, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. Data security fundamentals often come back to the CIA Triad: data confidentiality, data integrity, and data availability. The shared responsibility model refers to the idea that both a cloud provider and the organization using the cloud are responsible for ensuring the overall security of the organization’s cloud infrastructure, including the data housed there.
