Gartner predicted that the overall cloud computing market will expand by 17 percent annually during the next three years to $206 billion — and continued growth is expected in healthcare as well. “We’re kind of nearing the tipping point with significant growth and acceleration around cloud, and with the frequency with which U.S. hospitals continue to invest in cloud,” said Janet King, senior director of market insights at HIMSS Media. So it follows that the philosophy of being a “cloud-first” organization is also gaining momentum. But what does it really mean? And what does it not mean? Let’s take a look at what executives from Rush University Medical Center, Emory University and Sisters of Mercy Health have to say about that.

How to Scale IT Infrastructure

Article | April 25, 2020

IT infrastructure scaling is when the size and power of an IT system are scaled to accommodate changes in storage and workflow demands. Infrastructure scaling can be horizontal or vertical. Vertical scaling, or scaling up, adds more processing power and memory to a system, giving it an immediate boost. Horizontal scaling, or scaling out, adds more servers to the cloud, easing the bottleneck in the long run, but also adding more complexity to the system.

New Ransomware Targets Critical Infrastructure in 2020

Article | March 31, 2020

Critical infrastructure, like power and water systems, face a number of cyber-security threats. Traditional ransomware variants can bring these systems down by encrypting files that are vital to their operation. However, a new variant poses an even greater risk to critical infrastructure. The Ekans ransomware is designed specifically to take down critical services, making anti-ransomware protection even more important in these environments. Ransomware is a well-known threat made famous by the WannaCry worm. The success of the 2017 WannaCry outbreak has inspired a rash of attacks and new ransomware variants in recent years.

SASE as a Business Continuity Solution

Article | April 9, 2020

As offices worldwide sit abandoned, many of the millions of employees ordered to stay home are actually keeping hard at work, taking advantage of residential broadband connections, VPNs, email, video conferencing, and instant messaging applications to do their jobs. Thank the corporate world’s willingness to let employees occasionally work from home for the necessary IT infrastructure. However, as much as we’d like this alone to solve the business continuity challenges, enabling a handful of employees to work from home once a week is trivial compared to ensuring all of a company’s employees can do so for months on end.

WIRELESS DATA CENTERS AND CLOUD COMPUTING

Article | April 13, 2020

One of the most exciting areas of Vubiq Network’s innovative millimeter wave technology is in the application of ultra high-speed, short-range communications as applied to solving the scaling constraints and costs for internal data center connectivity and switching. Today’s limits of cabled and centralized switching architectures are eliminated by leveraging the wide bandwidths of the millimeter wave spectrum for the high-density communications requirements inside the modern data center. Our patented technology has the ability to provide more than one terabit per second of wireless uplink capacity from a single server rack through an innovative approach to create a millimeter wave massive mesh network. The elimination of all inter-rack cabling – as well as the elimination of all aggregation and core switches – is combined with higher throughput, lower latency, lower power, higher reliability, and lower cost by using millimeter wave wireless connectivity.
