The xDB is Sitecore’s new analytics database that drives the next-generation marketing features available in Sitecore 7.5 and 8. The xDB is based on MongoDB, a change in infrastructure to accommodate high-performing scaling of high volumes of collected experience data. Strategically, the xDB is the engine powering the Sitecore Experience Platform, empowering marketers to optimize experience based on data-driven insights and a 360-degree view of the customer. Tactically, the xDB is a key architectural component of Sitecore driving data collection of customer interactions, personalization, optimization and testing, campaigns and engagement plans.
